Summertime is the season to get out your shorts, t-shirts, or your bathing suits and go to the beach. Except, you’re not going to the beach. You’re going skating. Do you think shorts are the best fit for skating? You have clicked on the right article. In this article, you will learn what clothes to wear for skating in the summer.
Always be Safe
First things first. Safety is your #1 concern. No matter the season; winter, spring, summer, or fall skaters should wear safety pads. Wear those knee pads, elbow pads, and a helmet.
Skaters are Skaters
Skaters take pride in who they are. Skaters want to make their own look stand out. If you want to be a skater, then you are a skater. Take skating seriously. Choose your summer fashion with the clothes that you want to wear. Skaters like to look put together, but in a way that confirms they didn’t try really hard. Wear outfits that are stylish, but casual.
Is There a Specific Shirt that I Should Wear?
Wear what you are comfortable wearing. Just know that you are going to be sweating a lot. Do you want to get your favorite shirt sweaty? In the world of skating, everybody creates their own style. Graphic tees or somewhat tight t-shirts are a good pick.
- Wearing a Tank
Another alternative that you could try out is a tank. Wearing tanks takes confidence. Some skaters wear tanks as a way to create an edgy look. Or to show off tattoos. Whatever you are confident with, skate in the summer with cool clothing.
- Logo T-Shirts’
True streetwear is easy. Shirts that have a logo of the brand that you are skating for are a popular summer gear to wear. Logos are still hounded over now, but they’ve also cross-pollinated into the high-end worlds they used to rip-off. Or in other words, wear a shirt that means something to you.
What Fashions are Trending in Skating?
Following along with the crowd is not necessary, but it is important to pick up on trends. Here are the trends that are going on right now in the skating world. Choose the kind of skater that you want to be. Do it because you like to skate, not because you want the attention. Skating is a fun physical exercise after all.
- Dress Comfortably
Or in other words, dress casually. Most skaters like to be comfortable. Having all the flexibility to skate in clothes to do all those wild tricks and crazy styles is an important key figure. Expect movements like twisting, tearing, fading, and possibly even blood. Repeat this. Every skater falls.
While skaters often wear tighter clothes, those clothes require you to allow yourself to move about easily and give flexibility to your muscles. Before doing advanced tricks, experiment on clothes so that you can perform those tricks better.
- Play the Part of a Skater
It all depends on what style you are trying to achieve. Skating is all about attitude. To be a punk skater you need to be confident, edgy, bold, and able to defend yourself. As you skate you can also wear headphones and listen to music to show that you are all about punk life.
- Wearing Aggressively Themed T-Shirts
Stark colors are the way to go as a skater. Make yourself stand out in exotic colors. Shirts with sayings are popular. Watch out for what your shirt says because it could come off as an insult.
- Wearing Brand Names
Now is the time to research top brands. LRG, Asphalt Yacht Club, DGK, Neff, Fly Society, 10 Deep, Famous Stars & Straps, & KR3W are some popular names for skating style clothing. This style emphasizes brand names a little more than the others.
- Wear a Snapback
Not sure what a snapback is? Don’t fret, most skaters had no idea what a snapback was until researching what skating clothes they should wear. A snapback is a baseball cap with an adjustable strap. A snapback is essential to completing a summer skater look. Snapbacks come in all different styles and brands. Choose the one that looks right for you. Wear it facing forwards or backward.
What About a Sweatshirt?
Again, what you wear is entirely up to you. Look at what the temperature is outside. Don’t wear a hoodie or a sweatshirt on a day where ice melts on the sidewalk in a matter of seconds.
What Kind of Pants Should I Wear?
It’s okay to wear shorts. However, one should wear knee pads as their bare legs are not concealed. That fall is not going to be a pretty one. Long pants are okay to wear too, but not long pants that cling to your skin. Breathable black denim pants are a great source.
Most skaters tend to wear pants that are loose. Or tight jeans. Look into jeans that have an elastic fabric in order to do tricks. Baggy knee-length shorts are also a trend. Skating means that you have to squat a lot. Get control of the skates, therefore letting your knees bend.
What Kind of Pants Should I Avoid?
- Straight-legged jeans
- Skinny Jeans
Should I Wear Socks?
Ou bet that you should wear socks. Just because summer is the time to kick off those socks and shoes to wear flip flops, does not mean that you are going barefoot in skates. The insides of skates are not comfortable. The material rubs against your feet leaving nasty sores and blisters.
Wear socks that are necessary for skating. Don’t worry, your feet are not going to overheat if that’s what you are worried about. Socks that reach as high as the ankle are not the best. They easily wrinkle, scrunching down your ankle as you are skating.
Wearing Accessories on my Head
The one accessory that you should wear on your head is a helmet. Some people wear a hat when skating around in the summer to keep the beating sun out of their eyes. As we have advised, don’t go along with everything in the crowd. It’s your job to stay safe. You want to remember your summer, not forget it.
Accessories in General
Earrings, nose rings, or any piercing on that face. Don’t go out of your way to get a piercing that you don’t want. Wearing accessories is up to you. Consider potential hazards if you fall. Big buckles, zippers, or anything that is metal on your clothing should be bypassed as these are potential hazards that can make a small fall turn into a nasty injury.
What Not to Wear While Skating
Don’t wear anything that is restrictive. The reason why we told you not to wear straight-legged or skinny jeans in the summer, or just in general, is because they are too stiff. In order to skate, one has to bend their legs in order to glide with the skates.
For women, don’t skate in a skirt or dress. Without question, it is not comfortable, falling is a hazard, and it will lead to embarrassing moments that you don’t want to happen.
Comfortable clothing is your best bet. Avoid loose clothing that is going to get in the way.
Do I Need Anything Else for Skating?
Take a bag with you. Packing a bag with all the necessary supplies is a good move in case you are heading to an event or an occasion right after. Items to include in this bag are a towel, a change of clothes, deodorant, and shoes.
Safety Precautions
Other than making sure that you have all the safety gear that you need for skating, always look out for yourself. Be aware, take caution of where you are not supposed to skate, don’t wear any pieces of clothing that dangle close to the wheels that could make you have a tip-over.
As mentioned above, some skaters like to wear headphones to listen to music. Listening to music is fun and all, but it cuts you off from the world. Be aware of your surroundings and always look out for yourself.
Wear Bright Colors
One other safety tip is that you should avoid wearing black in the summer. Wearing black sticks to your body causing you to sweat more. The reason why some skaters decide to wear black is to look cool. Not the type of cool that you are trying to do. Colors that are light are the best.
Stand out with bright clothing. Wear a tee or a snapback in a bright color. Some skaters wear a white tee to look casual. Bring in your summer pop of color from a hat, shoes, or from their bling jewelry.
Enjoy the Summer Skating
Most important, don’t go all out of your way to buy something super expensive. Don’t waste a lot of money on shiny new accessories and brand-name items when an old t-shirt and a faded pair of jeans will get the job done. Summers are the time to have fun.
