Sure-Grip Boardwalk vs Moxi Lolly (Including Differences, Pros & Cons) - Hello Roller Girl

Hi guys, it’s another beautiful day to drop a review for you guys. After the last detailed review I dropped on the roller skates, it has been itching me to get new roller skates- which I did.

I got a lot of recommendations concerning the Moxi lolly roller skate, but the Sure-grip caught my attention and I decided to get both of them.

I kid you not when I tell you that these roller skates are incredible. I for one enjoyed using both of them for a while.

I think one of the reasons it was easy to get going with these boots is because I am no longer in the learning stage of my skating journey. They looked cook and beautiful on my legs and I’ll give credit to how good they’ll look on you if you’re a very fashionable person.

In this review, I’ll be comparing the Sure-Grip Boardwalk and the Moxi Lolly because why not?

Finding the difference between the Moxi Lolly and the sure-grip boardwalk was not an easy task. I literally had to wear them for about 3 weeks to get a very contrasting feature from both. Thankfully my careful observation was not in vain.

The major difference between the Sure-Grip boardwalk and the Moxi Lolly is that in the thickness and padding of the boot, the sure-grip boardwalk is much thicker than the Moxi lolly.

If you have a loose ankle and you’re looking for better ankle support, I’ll recommend going for the sure grips.

When it came down to deciding which one I preferred, it came almost naturally and I didn’t really have to give it that much thought to choose between them.

The Moxi lolly won my heart guys…… pheww!

From my experience, skating with the Moxi lolly gave me more confidence coupled with the fact that they are really beautiful roller skates. They give me some kind of unexplainable but utterly satisfying feeling.

Does that make sense?

If I had a quick roller skate date or just a grab-and-go zoom-out day, I’m definitely grabbing the Moxi lolly skates.

If you have a different opinion about the Moxi lolly skates, that’s completely understandable. We all have our preferred specs and properties. Now, without wasting any further time, let’s get into today’s review!

What are Moxi Lolly Skates?

I’ll give you guys a heads up.

If you’re going to order for the Moxi lolly skates, make sure you’re present on whatever website you prefer to get yours from on the release day.

The Moxi lolly’s never stayed in stock, which is sad and also proves my observation right. It’s quite difficult to catch a Moxi lolly in stock on the website or the walk-in shop.

The first time I ordered them, I went for the peach ones. Apart from a few adjustments I made on the wheels, they were ready for skating out of the box.

I once heard someone say that it took him an hour to break in his Moxi lolly skates. It came as a shocker to me until I got mine. Although it was 2 hours for me, I must confess this is the easiest breaking-in I have ever experienced in my life as a skater.

The skates provide premium comfort, it isn’t really as padded as the sure-grip boardwalk, but they are super comfortable and I highly recommend them for beginners in the roller skating niche.

Now, as comfortable as these skates are, I didn’t really enjoy using the toe-stops they came in. it left mark on the ground and I notice that it pudders each time I applied brakes. I had to get them changed to better toe-stops for an effective braking system.

It comes with a 65mm wheel and is super cute. Although the wheels are literally the same as the sure-grip boardwalks, they gave me a more accelerating feeling. They didn’t really grip to the surface like I would have preferred which left me feeling less in control of my skating.

The tongues are thin and basically the same as the sure-grip boardwalk except for the fact that it came with extra padding. The liners are beautiful and soft, one of the reasons it provides comfort.

Moving forward, the cost and affordability of these skates are pretty expensive. I got mine for $340 which isn’t affordable if you ask me. Especially for beginners in skating.

What are Sure-Grip Boardwalk Skates?

I said it before and I’ll say it again if you want a better grip and ankle support, the sure grip boardwalk is your go-to skates.

I really enjoyed using them because unlike the Moxi lolly, they provided a better stance and grip on the skating surface. They obeyed my every move and every turn and this made me feel more in control of my skating.

It comes with nylon power trot plates which are really good for roller skates. The wheels were 65mm, exactly the same as the Moxi lolly. They however felt different when skating. I’m guessing there’s a secret ingredient the manufactures used when making the wheels of the sure-grip board work.

They came with wonderful laces unlike most inline laces (I really hate inline laces, they’re a pain in the ass) and although I prefer the buckle system, the lacing system was also top-notch.

Just like the Moxi lolly, it has thin tongues without any extra padding. But because of the thicker material used to make the boots, it still comes first when it comes to ankle and feet support. I also enjoyed using the toe-stops they came with. They were super great and effective and they are also adjustable.

Why Should You Buy Sure-Grip Boardwalk or Moxi Lolly Skates?

The choice is definitely up to you and I’m not here to convince you to buy any of them.

But…

Without a doubt, they’re really great fits to invest in especially the Moxi lolly. If you’re not an intense skater and you’re looking to go into skating just for the fun of it and recreational purposes, they are the best out there.

I say this with all sincerity.

Overlooking how costly the Moxi lolly might be, they would be a great pick for beginners.

And oh, I forgot to mention, I got my sure grip boardwalk for $219 which is a pretty fir buy for its qualities if you asked for my opinion.

Sure-Grip Boardwalk Skates vs Moxi Lolly Skates Differences

Physically, the two roller skates look almost alike. If not for branding you might mistake one for the other at first sight. However, they do have a few differences which I’ll like to talk about.

The toe stops on the sure-grip boardwalk are much preferable to that of the Moxi lolly. Not only is it adjustable, but it is also easy to break them in and they lasted a long time than the ones that came with the Moxi lolly. I had to change them to the same type in the sure-grip boardwalk.

Although the wheels are similar in size and look the same. They feel different on the skating surface. The sure-grip has more support and grip on the ground. It doesn’t speed or accelerate as much as the Moxi lolly and it leaves you in total control of your skating. The Moxi lolly, on the other hand, moves really fast. I wish it felt more like the sure grip and it would have been the perfect roller skating shoes.

But, oh well.

When it comes to the build and padding of the two skates, the sure-grip boardwalk feels thicker than the Moxi lolly. Because of this, the sure-grip boardwalk has more ankle support and resistance.

Breaking in the Moxi lolly was pretty easy and only took me 2 hours to accomplish, whereas the suregrip boardwalk took about a week. Thankfully I didn’t get any blisters (it really annoys me when I get blisters from breaking in my roller skates.
